As we’ve come to understand year after year, day after day even, death is unfortunately an inevitable part of life. Still, as much of a fact as that may be, the blow of experiencing loss never gets any easier, nor does reporting on the subject in Black culture.

Actor Bill Cobbs has died.

Cobbs is best known for his standout role in the iconic film New Jack City (1991), where he starred alongside Ice-T and Wesley Snipes. Cobbs’ role as the “Old Man” who is so frustrated with Drug Dealers in his community, that he shoots Nino Brown (Played by Snipes) after a court case where it seems that Brown got off lightly.

Cobbs also appeared in the 1992 film “The Bodyguard starring Whitney Houston and as Reginald in 2006’s “Night at the Museum.” In 2020, he won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited Performance in a Daytime Program for the series Dino Dana.

Cobbs just turned 90 on June 16th.
