7 Swing States That Could Sway the 2024 Presidential Election

As we are in the closing months of this years presidential election, many states have a strong mind on which presidential candidate will win theie states share of electoral votes. However, there are more than a few ‘swing’ states this election year, whose support could decide the winning candidate of the 2024 presidential election.

What is a swing state?

A swing state, according to Merriam Websters’ definition, is one that’s “considered to play a key role in the outcome of presidential elections” and where candidates of both the Democratic and Republican parties “have similar levels of support.”

Usually, the group of swing states remain the same during each presidential election cycle, although factors such as changing demographics can cause a traditionally red or blue state to turn purple. According to US News, Georgia, for example, swung into the swing state category in the wake of Biden’s surprise victory there in 2020 and Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock’s election win in 2022.

What Are the 2024 Swing States?

The seven swing states for the 2024 presidential election are: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. These seven states hold more than 90 total electoral votes, which account for 17% of the nation’s presidential approval.

While many of these states are sure on who their leader will be, these seven states are still up for grabs, with each party having just a few months to sway the states decision. As the Republican party rallies behind their leader in Donald Trump, the Democratic Party is still piecing together their presidential ticket, as they look to find a running mate for VP Kamala Harris — who has agreed to run as the Democratic party’s presidential nominee.
