Richard Simmons, popular fitness guru has passed away, a day after his 76th birthday. According to TMZ, police and fire responded to a call from his housekeeper Saturday morning and he was pronounced him dead at the scene. No foul play is suspected.
Known for his exuberant personality and unmistakable style, Simmons has had a significant impact on the fitness industry and popular culture.
Simmons, born Milton Teagle Simmons burst onto the fitness scene in the late 1970s and quickly became a household name throughout the 1980s. He championed the idea that fitness could be fun and accessible to everyone, regardless of their shape, size, or fitness level. His approach was inclusive, positive, and filled with infectious enthusiasm.
Perhaps the most iconic of his contributions, the “Sweatin’ to the Oldies” series combined classic tunes with easy-to-follow dance moves. Simmons was a regular on television, appearing on talk shows, game shows, and even hosting his own series, “The Richard Simmons Show,” which won multiple Emmy Awards.

Simmons posted on his official Facebook page acknowledging the messaging and support received on his birthday.
