As we’ve come to understand year after year, day after day even, death is unfortunately an inevitable part of life. Still, as much of a fact as that may be, the blow of experiencing loss never gets any easier, nor does reporting on the subject in Black culture.

Actor David Harris, known for his role in the cult classic “The Warriors,” has died. Harris played “Cochise,” one of the leaders of The Warriors gang in Sol Yurick’s 1965 novel and 1979 film. In the story, the Warriors, a New York City street gang, must travel from the Bronx to their home turf in Coney Island after being framed for the murder of a respected gang leader.

Despite initial negative reviews and controversy over violence at screenings, “The Warriors” has become a cult classic, celebrated for its unique portrayal of gang life and stylistic approach.Harris began his acting career in 1976 with the television film Judge Horton and the Scottsboro Boys and was seen in TV shows such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Harris was 75 years old.
