Scarface Grateful For Recovery After Recent Health Scare: ‘It Could’ve Went Either Way’

In a year that’s been full of loss and tragedy, we’re happy to report that one of Hip-Hop’s elder statesman is not only recovering from a recent health issue, but he’s taken to social media to share his gratitude for another chance.

Earlier this, Scarface shared an image of himself in a hospital bed, which sparked concern because the 53-year-old rapper has made headlines in the past regarding his health. It looks like we got some answers today, as he shared a new, smiling photo and a caption detailing his recent open heart surgery.

“[Six Weeks] ago I underwent open heart surgery, to be upright and smiling today shows you that God aint nothing to play with,” He wrote below a photo posted on Instagram. “And again I say, I’m grateful, it could’ve went either way, yet I’m still alive…”

During the pandemic, Face needed a kidney transplant and he revealed, during a July 2021 interview that he finally got the news he was looking for in the search for a suitable donor.

“A couple of days ago .. well Friday they called me and said I was a match with my son,” Scarface said over a Zoom call promoting he and Willie D’s brand new podcast, Geto Boys Reloaded. “So it’s any day now.”

“I just told him when everything was going down, ‘Hey man, you don’t have to go through that. If I’m a match, I’ma do it,’” Chris Jordan said in the same interview.

Scarface isn’t the only artist making news for dealing with health issues recently. On Monday (October 7), it was revealed that Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, was recovering in a Houston hospital from an unknown health issue, according to a statement the entertainer’s X account.

The 41-year-old star went to Houston for surgery after experiencing health concerns after his show in New Orleans. He also announced he’d be canceling the rest of his North American tour, along with his UK and European tour dates to focus on his recovery.

After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to make sure of an ailment that had become apparent. After being assesed, it became clear i would not perform that night, and after more tests, i could not perform the rest of the US tour in the time asked. As of now…

“After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to make sure of an ailment that had become apparent,” Glover said in a statement. “After being [assessed], it became clear I would not perform that night, and after more tests, I could not perform the rest of the US tour in the time asked. As of now I have surgery scheduled and need time out to heal.”

Glover gave no further details as to what the state of his condition or his ailment is, and gave no insight as to when or if the tour’s canceled dates would be rescheduled.

Glover had previously canceled his Sept. 8 Houston show.
