Actor Tony Todd, perhaps best known for his role in the horror classic “Candyman,” has passed away. He was 69 years old. Reps for the actor confirmed that he died Wednesday at his Los Angeles home.
In addition to the role that made him a slasher movie icon, Todd amassed more than 200 acting parts throughout a career that spanned four decades, appearing in films like “Platoon,” “The Rock” and the “Final Destination” franchise.
“I didn’t audition. I had to pass what they called ‘the personality test,” Tony Todd once said in an interview about his iconic horror role. He was 38 when he first played Candyman in 1992. “[The director] saw me in a movie I had done in South Africa called The Last Elephant. He told the studio, ‘That’s who I want.’ The studio was hesitant.”
