Infamous D.C. Drug Kingpin Rayful Edmond Dead At 60

Rayful Edmond, a notorious drug kingpin whose operation terrorized the Washington, D.C. streets at the height of the so-called “Crack Era” is reportedly dead according to unconfirmed accounts. Rayful Edmond, 60, was released from prison this past summer after serving well over three decades behind bars and was transferred to a reentry facility in Tennessee.

On X, formerly Twitter, social media accounts are claiming that the brother of Edmond confirmed that his sibling has died although we have yet to see an official report. Edmond, 59, ran a lucrative drug operation that not only ravaged the Nation’s Capital, but also ignited turf wars, and bloody shootouts, and placed the wider region under siege. At its height, Edmond’s organization earned over $300 million a year and was connected to nearly three dozen reported murders

We’ve reached out to sources looking for a confirmation but nothing has yet to materialize. We also reached out to the Residential Reentry Management (RRM) office in Nashville where Edmond was reportedly sent after his prison release to no avail. There have been swirling reports online that Edmond was killed but those accounts have largely been refuted as we continue to await details. A Texas attorney online shared on X that he recently spoke with Edmond, with others saying he was unfairly portrayed in the media under the reply.

UPDATE: It has now been confirmed that Rayful Edmond did indeed pass away on Tuesday (Dec. 16) according to a report from the local Washington outlet, Fox 5 DC.
