It’s not a bird or a plane, it’s the return of America’s most iconic comic book hero to the big screen. On Thursday (Dec. 19), DC Studios released the first official trailer for Superman, which soars into theaters July 11, 2025.

The film follows Superman as he embarks on a journey to reconcile his other-worldly origins with his human upbringing as the mild-mannered Clark Kent as is said to be the first film of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
Bringing the legendary hero back to the big screen hasn’t been the smoothest attempt: Development on a continuation to the 2013 film, Man of Steel, began in late 2014, with Henry Cavill set to reprise his role as Superman. That all changed after the troubled production of 2017’s Justice League, which pretty much ended plans for the Man of Steel sequel.
In 2022, director James Gunn started work on a new Superman film and, after he became co-CEO of DC Studios with producer Peter Safran, the pair began work on a new DC Universe with actor David Corenswet landing the lead role of Superman.
