As a die-hard fan of the Cleveland Browns, watching other NFL franchises do something completely stupid is always fun.
In a report released Thursday by TheAthletic.com, the New York Jets apparently passed on acquiring Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy because—get ready—his Madden rating was too low.
Yep. That’s right.
According to a source for the New York Times, Jets owner Woody Johnson didn’t believe Jeudy would be a good fit for his football team because of his grades on a popular video game. Johnson apparently leaned on his two sons, Brick and Jack, for this crucial information.

From NBCSports.com:
“When we’re discussing things, you’ll hear Woody cite something that Brick or Jack read online that’s being weighed equally against whatever opinion someone else in the department has,” an unnamed Jets executive told TheAthletic.com.
Jeudy, meanwhile, is having a career season. He ranks 5th in the NFL with 1052 receiving yards. A huge chunk of his production blossomed while Jameis Winston was playing QB, so it’ll be interesting to see how he looks with Dorian Thompson-Robinson this weekend.
Both the Browns and Jets will have major quarterback decisions to make in 2025. While each team has already been eliminated from playoff contention, the Jets’ Aaron Rodgers and Browns’ Deshaun Watson both had disappointing years.
But that’s what you should expect when one franchise makes the worst trade in modern sports history, and the other uses videogame rating to determine who they bring into their locker room
