As we’ve come to understand year after year, day after day even, death is unfortunately an inevitable part of life. Still, as much of a fact as that may be, the blow of experiencing loss never gets any easier, nor does reporting on the subject in Black culture.
Robin Ayers, a beloved radio host for KBLA Radio in Los Angeles, died on December 5 at the age of 54.
A veteran entertainment reporter, Ayers was known for her radio program, The RA Report, which kept her audience informed and entertained with the latest news and interviews.
Ayers was also a dedicated writer and reporter for EURweb since 2015. EURweb’s founder and publisher, Lee Bailey, issued a statement on Ayers’ passing on Tuesday (Dec. 6), remembering the lasting impact she left behind in her work.
“Along with the EURweb staff/family, I am deeply saddened by the passing of Robin Ayers. Her passion for storytelling and unwavering commitment to truth brought depth and authenticity to her work. She was not just a colleague but a friend, and her impact on EURweb and the lives she touched will never be forgotten.”
In a June interview with CanvasRebel, Ayers opened up briefly about her battle with Leiomyosarcoma (LMS), a rare, aggressive form of cancer that grows in smooth muscles.
“Last year (2023) I battled a health crisis when I was diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma,” Ayers said. “Every day, through all of the pain I showed up for my radio show daily. While I do believe in listening to your body (and I did), I also believe that we need to pull through for people that rely on us.”
She added, “I was raised with a certain level of discipline that is hard for me to shake, even in the face of adversity.”
Ayers’ cause of death has not been made public.
