Innerbody Research Group recently issued its 8th annual study of national STI (Sexually Transmitted Infections) rates, using the latest data published by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Looking at statistics on a city-by-city basis, the group developed the list of the 100 metropolitan areas with the highest STI rates.

According to the CDC’s data, overall STI rates dropped by 1.8% in 2023, showing signs of positive change. Specifically:

  • The national gonorrhea infection rate dropped by 7% from the previous year.
  • The rate of chlamydia infection remains effectively unchanged, which is still a 9% drop since 2019.
  • A 1% increase in overall syphilis infections represents a much slower rate of increase, compared to the 29% increase seen in previous analysis.

Locally, only one city in the state of Georgia landed in the Top 25. That city is Savannah, which lands at #23 with 1,174 reported STI cases per 100K people. Other GA cities mentioned in the study are Augusta (#35) and Atlanta (#39).

Scroll down to take a look at the 25 cities with the highest STI rates.
