The 2025 Met Gala is going to be very Black, as is any truly fashion-forward moment. The members of the 2025 Met Gala host committee have been announced, and included are OutKast’s Andre 3000, fashion icon Dapper Dan, R&B crooner Usher and many more.
For those unaware, each year the Met Gala marks the opening of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s spring fashion exhibition. For 2025, the exhibition is titled Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, and it is touted as focusing on the history of the Black dandy and its influence on fashion. In late October 2024, the Met Gala’s co-chairs, which include Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams, as well as Vogue’s Anna Wintour, were announced.
For anyone who immediately asked, “Where is Dapper Dan?”—your inquiry has been answered. The renowned Harlem tailor who freshly brought couture to the hood, and OG Hip-Hop album covers, is a member of the the Met Gala’s 2025 host committee. Also revealed as hosts were rapper, and recent Grammy Award winner Doechii, actress Ayo Edebiri, singer Tyla, Olympian, and GOAT athlete Simone Biles, designer Grace Wales Bonner, the aforementioned Ursher, ahem, Usher and author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Also making the cut, no pun intended, are painter Kara Walker, playwright Jeremy O. Harris and Olympian Shacarri Richardson.
“I’m beyond excited to stand with my fellow Host Committee members in supporting The Met and this year’s spring Costume Institute exhibition, celebrating the undeniable impact of Black creativity on fashion and culture for centuries,” said Richardson in a statement. “Our style isn’t just what we wear—it’s how we move, how we own our space, how we tell our story without saying a word. Fashion sets us apart, but it also brings us together—whether you’re shining on the track, commanding the stage, or just making the streets of New York your runway. On May 5, our light will continue shining on the power of style, and trust me, you don’t wanna miss it.”
Also revealed was the dress code, which is described as “Tailored For You,” a wink to the exhibition’s theme that is “purposefully designed to provide guidance and invite creative interpretation.” We look forward to seeing who understood—and who will fail—the assignment, respectfully.
Foodies will also be keen to know that the menu at the gala will be courtesy of Chef Kwame Onwuachi of Tatiana fame.
And before we forget, the 2025 Met Gala’s honorary chair is LeBron James. We checked, King James doesn’t have a game scheduled for that day, yet—the NBA playoffs start April 19.
