The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has released the full, unedited footage and transcript of Kamala Harris’ recent interview with “60 Minutes” following public allegations of deceptive editing by CBS.
The controversy erupted after critics accused the network of trimming Harris’ responses to make her appear more succinct, potentially influencing public perception during a critical election period.
At the center of the dispute was Harris’ answer to a question about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The aired version featured a compact, 56-word response, while the unedited transcript revealed a much longer, 140-word answer.
Another segment addressing U.S. diplomacy with Israel showed an even more drastic cut, condensing a 179-word reply into just 20 words on the broadcast.
Critics claimed these edits masked Harris’ meandering delivery, leading to accusations of shielding her from scrutiny.

The FCC launched an investigation into whether CBS violated its “news distortion” rule, which prohibits intentional manipulation of news content.
CBS defended the edits, citing time constraints and standard editorial practices, and denied altering the essence of Harris’ statements.

However, the uproar intensified when former President Donald Trump filed a $10 billion lawsuit against the network, alleging election interference through misleading reporting.

Beyond the immediate legal battles, the case raises broader concerns about media ethics and the responsibility of networks to maintain transparency and fairness, particularly in high-stakes election coverage.
The FCC’s findings could set a precedent for how media outlets handle editorial discretion without compromising public trust.
