Groundhog Day 2025: Six More Weeks of Winter!

This February 2nd, all eyes turned to Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, to hear the much-anticipated prediction from the world’s most famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil.

Amidst a lively crowd gathered before dawn, complete with fireworks, music, and plenty of furry hats, the legendary groundhog emerged from his stump at around 7:26 a.m. The verdict? Phil saw his shadow, officially declaring six more weeks of winter!

For the 139th time, Phil carried out his whimsical weather role as “Seer of Seers,” delivering his forecast in “Groundhogese” to the president of the Inner Circle, who read the scroll to the cheering crowd.

Despite the frigid news, spirits stayed high in Punxsutawney, as revelers sang songs and danced to tunes like “Mr. Brightside” and the “Star Wars” theme before the big reveal.

The celebration was as much about the fun as it was about the forecast.

The tradition, which began in 1887, reflects a blend of folklore and merriment, rooted in old European customs of weather prediction.

While Phil might not top the charts for meteorological accuracy—his rate floats around 35%—he remains an enduring symbol of hope and humor during the long stretch of winter.

Though the prediction might have you holding on to your scarves and snow boots a little longer, Groundhog Day always serves as a joyful reminder that even our quirkiest traditions can bring people together.

Whether it’s Phil’s shadow or just the festive spirit of the day, one thing is certain—winter isn’t done with us yet!
