Percy Miller, better known as Master P, is stepping into the sports world once again. The entrepreneur and former pro player has taken on the role of President of Basketball Operations at the University of New Orleans (UNO), aiming to bring fresh energy and leadership to the school’s basketball program.

Basketball has played a pivotal role in Master P’s life since his childhood in New Orleans. From sharpening his skills at the New Orleans Recreational Development Commission to later excelling at Warren Easton High School, the sport became his foundation. His talent carried him to college basketball at the University of Houston and Merritt College, where he gained a reputation as a dynamic player. Professionally, Miller’s basketball résumé includes stints in the Continental Basketball Association and tryouts with NBA teams, such as the Charlotte Hornets and Toronto Raptors.
Master P has sons who play college basketball. Hercy Miller played for Tennessee State University and signed a $2 million endorsement deal after the NCAA rule change. Another son, Mercy Miller, is a highly regarded basketball player who has made headlines for his impressive performances and NIL deals. Lil’ Romeo, also known as Romeo Miller, had a brief and modest basketball career at the University of Southern California (USC). He played for the Trojans during the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 seasons. Over two years, he appeared in nine games, recording a total of five points, three rebounds, one assist, and two steals.
Now, he’s taking on a different kind of challenge with UNO. Reflecting on the university’s history, Miller said, “UNO was once one of the top programs in the country. It was all about Privateer Nation, and the excitement was unmatched. I’m here to help bring that back.” His goal is clear—to restore the winning tradition of UNO basketball and rekindle the city’s excitement for the team.
Head Men’s Basketball Coach Stacy Hollowell is equally optimistic about the impact Miller can make. “Coach Miller has a wealth of basketball knowledge and strong ties to the city. He’s not just about the game—he’s about creating positive change,” Hollowell shared.
Beyond wins and losses on the court, Master P is focused on the bigger picture. He sees his position as an opportunity to mentor student-athletes, ensuring they have the resources and guidance needed to thrive both on and off the hardwood. “This is about building leaders,” he explained. “UNO is our culture, our team, our family, and I’m here to make sure every student-athlete feels that.”
