Microsoft has announced that Skype will be retired in May as the company shifts its focus to Teams, its modern online communications platform.
Acquired by Microsoft in 2011, Skype will be replaced by Teams, which offers calling, chat, and online meeting tools.

Microsoft will assist Skype users in transitioning to Teams and provide an option to export their Skype data before the shutdown on May 5.
