DOJ Withdrawing Consent Decrees in Major Blow to Police Reform
Consent decrees, which have often been used to spur police reform in cities where misconduct, bias, and poor policing are endemic, are under attack from the Trump Administration.

Somehow, mass deportation enthusiasts have gotten it in their heads that it’s illegal to teach migrants, documented or not, what constitutional rights they have when confronted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
Now, this profound loud and wrongness is not so immediately harmful when it comes to everyday citizens who aren’t very well-read in the U.S. Constitution (while pretending to be patriots), but when elected officials and the officials they appoint to important offices display that same brand of ignorance, it’s a problem. Also, it’s par for the (golf) course when it comes to the Trump administration.
Tom Homan, President Donald Trump’s border czar, recently suggested that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) could be “in trouble” for advising migrants of their rights. Homan even went as far as to send a Karen email to the deputy attorney general fishing for ways to arrest AOC for — *check notes* — telling people what ICE legally can and cannot do to them.
Know Your Rights, pt 2/2.
If you’re pissed that I’m educating the people of this country of their Constitutional rights, that’s on you.
And yes, immigrants have rights too. This is the LAND of the free.

From HuffPost:
“I sent an email today to the deputy attorney general,” Homan told Laura Ingraham on Fox News Thursday. “At what level is that impediment. Is that impediment?”
Ocasio-Cortez hosted a webinar on immigrants’ rights and posted information on social media.“Believe it or not, in America EVERYONE has rights,” she wrote on X. “Citizen or not, we all should know our rights to protect ourselves and others from illegal search & seizure.”
She included graphics reminding people that they don’t have to allow authorities into their home without a warrant, and that they have a right to remain silent when questioned.
Homan noted that he’s not an attorney or a prosecutor, but said he asked the deputy attorney general if that kind of activity could be considered impeding law enforcement operations.
“If so, what are we gonna do about it? Is she crossing the line?” he asked. “So I’m working with the Department of Justice and finding out. Where is that line that they crossed, so maybe AOC’s gonna be in trouble now.”
So, yeah, Homan isn’t an attorney or prosecutor — or a person with even basic, bare-minimum knowledge of what is and isn’t against the law. (Perfect for a top law enforcement official, amirite?) But the scarier thing is that he doesn’t even seem to understand what he’s asking here. After all, it’s not like AOC’s webinar taught migrants how to throw a punch at an ICE agent and run. Her webinar didn’t provide an Underground Railroad for undocumented immigrants. All she did was inform them of their legal rights, which means Homan is out here trying to have AOC arrested just for telling people what constitutional protections they have, to the point where he’s sending emails to the highest legal office in the nation to find non-existent laws that she broke. If that’s not pro-fascism, what is?
Of course, Laura Ingraham, an anchor at a prestigious institution of journalism like Fox News, did her duty as a journalist and informed Homan that constitutional advice is not illegal nor should it be in a so-called “free country,” right?
Oh, nah — she just sat there like a white nationalist bobblehead treating Homan’s flirt with fascism like it was something that should be seriously entertained. Or as AOC put it: “‘MaYbe shE’s goiNg to be in TroUble nOw.’”

“Maybe he can learn to read. The Constitution would be a good place to start,” AOC tweeted in response to Homan.
Mind you, this isn’t the first time this has come up. Not two weeks ago, Elon Musk, the guy who managed to billionaire his way into being the president’s puppet master — sorry, his Department of Government Efficiency head — accused Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) of “breaking the law. Literally. Outright” because he thought she hosted a forum where she advised an audience of migrants of their rights, which, as it turns out, she didn’t even do.
Hey Elon
Every single person in this country deserves to know their rights. That’s legal.
Maybe you should brush up on our laws given the fact you’re breaking them to steal American’s sensitive data.

Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas) took things a step further and suggested that Omar, a U.S. citizen who has been in America since she was 8 years old, should be deported for doing the thing that she actually didn’t do, which wouldn’t have been illegal even if she had done it.
They don’t care about the Constitution and they don’t love America. They love white supremacy, diet dictatorships and xenophobia. That’s what it means to MAGA.
