The incident took place at Bush Intercontinental Airport and video from inside the aircraft shows flames coming from the plane’s wing. In one clip, flight attendants can be heard attempting to reassure anxious passengers. Eventually, those on board used stairs and the emergency slide to make their exit, according to the Houston Fire Department.
No injuries were reported.
Today’s incident will likely heighten already growing concerns from the public when it comes to airline travel safety. On January 29, tragedy struck Washington, D.C. after an aerial collision between a U.S. Army Blackhawk helicopter and a passenger plane.
According to Newsweek, the horrific accident happened when both the passenger plane, which was flying in from Wichita, Kansas, and the U.S. Army Blackhawk helicopter attempted to land at Reagan International Airport in Washington, D.C. Unfortunately, it is suspected that all 64 passengers in the commercial plane and the three soldiers in the helicopter have not survived the crash. A search for survivors are underway.
Trump: “‘The FAA, which is overseen by Secretary Pete Buttigeig’ — a real winner. Do you know how badly everything has run since he’s run the Department of Transportation. He’s a disaster … he’s got a good line of bullshit.”
Two days later, emergency crews responded to an explosion in Northeast Philadelphia after a small plane crashed in the area of Roosevelt Boulevard and Cottman Avenue, Philadelphia police confirmed to CBS News.
From The Associated Press:
Carrying six people from Mexico, including a child who spent months in treatment at a hospital, the Learjet 55 went down just after departing from the Northeast Philadelphia Airport, creating what witnesses described as a massive fireball, shaking houses and leaving a chaotic street scene.
The aircraft, reached about 1,500 feet of altitude after takeoff and then fell into a steep descent all in less than one minute, according to National Transportation Safety Board chair Jennifer Homendy.
All six people aboard the Philadelphia plane died. Another person, who was in a car, was the seventh fatal victim.
