Donald Trump stood in front of a joint session of Congress Tuesday night and delivered what wasn’t so much a State of the Union address as it was a political stump speech full of the same lies and contradictions he told on the campaign trail and has continued to spout in his first 43 days in office.

Trump spoke for 1 hour and 39 minutes — the longest such speech in the last 61 years.

“America is back,” Trump said and was met with loud applause and chants of “USA! USA!” from the chamber.

The biggest moment of the night was when Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) was removed from the chamber shortly after Trump’s speech began.

As previously reported by NewsOne:

Trump began his address by bragging about his election win, which he claimed was a landslide, giving him a mandate from the people to force his agenda on America through a boatload of executive orders. As Republicans stood up and cheered, Green also stood in defiance, shaking his cane in the air at President Trump during the opening minutes of his speech.

GOP lawmakers booed Green, which escalated the chaos on the House floor, momentarily pausing Trump’s speech. House Speaker Mike Johnson then stepped in and read the house rules over the microphone at his podium.

“Members are directed to uphold and maintain decorum in the House and to cease any further disruptions,” Johnson said to the house but directed towards Green.

Green didn’t relent and continued to defy orders, refusing to sit down. Johnson then called for the  House sergeant at arms to remove Green from the chamber.

After Green was removed, Trump continued his speech without much interference from other Democrats aside from the paper signs they held in the air any time he told a lie. U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett was among a group of Congressional Democrats who walked out of Trump’s speech in protest.

For his part, Trump made sure to attack what he calls “woke” culture and DEI initiatives — attacks that have been popular with and parroted by his base.

“Our country will be woke no longer,” Trump said.

He went on to say people “should be hired based on skill and talent, not race and gender.”

“We’ve ended the tyranny of so-called ‘Diversity, Equity and Inclusion’ policies all across the entire federal government and indeed the private sector and our military,” Trump said.

He said, “We will restore true democracy again,” at a time when many feel he is doing everything in his power to dismantle the democracy that currently exists.

The days of rule by unelected bureaucrats are over,” was another line in the speech — one that is currently being contradicted by the way Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) are being allowed to run through the government and make cuts to federal jobs and programs, all without Musk having been elected or confirmed to any post within the U.S. government.

Trump attacked the transgender community; made easily debunked claims about immigration and so-called “illegal immigrants” (while demonstrating that he still lacks a basic understanding of what the word “asylum” means as applied to immigrants); and blamed Joe Biden for the high price of eggs.

The biggest contradiction of the night came when Trump introduced Elon Musk as the head of DOGE — something the White House previously denied in a federal court filing  — and falsely claimed that Musk and his staff had found “hundreds of billions of dollars of fraud.” As of Monday, the actual amount of money DOGE has been able to cut is less than $9.6 billion, according to ABC News

Trump didn’t address any real policies and seemed only interested in making the kind of campaign rally statements that serve as dog whistles to his base.

“Wokeness is trouble. Wokeness is bad,” he reiterated at one point.

Trump ended his speech by saying “The Golden Age of America has just begun.”
