The FBI has launched a task force to combat a surge in violent attacks targeting Tesla, the agency announced Monday. The initiative follows months of vandalism and violence against Tesla vehicles, charging stations, and showrooms.
The attacks coincide with growing protests against Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who is spearheading the Trump administration’s controversial push to shrink the federal government. Over the weekend, the FBI urged the public to report suspicious activity, such as attempted break-ins or online threats against Tesla.
The Justice Department has also taken action, pledging to prosecute individuals involved in attacks on Tesla facilities. Some incidents have escalated, including Molotov cocktails being thrown at Tesla properties. FBI Director Kash Patel condemned the acts as “domestic terrorism,” vowing to bring those responsible to justice. Attorney General Pam Bondi echoed this sentiment after an arsonist shot at and set fire to Tesla vehicles in Las Vegas.
Tesla’s stock has suffered significant losses amid declining consumer interest and increasing hostility. Since Inauguration Day, the company has faced mounting resistance, with protests occasionally turning violent.
Musk responded to the attacks on X, denouncing them as terrorism. “There is no doubt that shooting bullets into Tesla stores and burning down Superchargers are acts of terrorism,” he wrote. In another post, he defended the company, stating, “Tesla just makes electric cars and has done nothing to deserve these evil attacks.”
The FBI declined to disclose details about the task force’s size or operations. The New York Post was the first to report on the initiative. Meanwhile, Tesla continues to navigate a turbulent period marked by security concerns, falling sales, and public backlash against its controversial CEO.
