The inspiring stories associated with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital have always held a special place in the hearts of everyone here at Urban One. That’s why it’s both an honor and personal obligation for the Radio One and REACH Media fam to come together in the annual Urban Cares for St. Jude Kids radiothon.
This year, from March 6 to March 7, the team was able to raise a whopping $1.6 million in monetary support that will help St. Jude find cures and save children.

Read up more below on how Radio One and REACH Media personalities we all know and love were able to unite for one amazing cause, via Business Wire:
“‘For almost two decades, our partners and friends at Urban One have brought people together to advance a common goal: helping kids with cancer and other life-threatening diseases,’ said Ike Anand, interim CEO of ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. ‘We are deeply grateful for listeners nationwide who tuned in to learn more about St. Jude and those who were so generous to provide support that helps St. Jude find cures and save children.’
On-air personalities in Radio One’s 13 markets nationwide and Reach Media’s nationally syndicated networks rallied listeners to become a Partner in Hope by making a monthly pledge to St. Jude. Nationally syndicated show, Get Up! Mornings with Erica Campbell, kicked off the live broadcast continuing with The Willie Moore Jr. Show, Nightly Spirit with Darlene McCoy and The Rickey Smiley Morning Show, the nation’s #1 hip-hop morning show.
Special guests made appearances and shared the St. Jude message to their social accounts including Lisa Knowles Smith, Vashawn Mitchell, MAJOR., Pastor Mike Jr. and Zacardi Cortez.”

The lucrative partnership, which began back in 2008, has over the span of almost 20 years been vital in raising $24.3 million for kids and families whether it be for treatment, travel, housing or food. At the heart of every donation is the “This Shirt Saves Lives” t-shirt that familiar faces like Erica Campbell, “GRIFF” and many other on-air staffers rocked during the radiothon.
