If you are wondering who is the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, don’t worry; we all are because the Trump administration keeps playing a shell game with shadow president Elon Musk’s official role.
See, before the president took office, he announced that the South African immigrant, was going to head up the created department with another Trump sycophant, Vivek Ramaswamy, but that didn’t last long as the biotech buffoon bowed out claiming that he was going to run for Ohio governor instead.
At least that was the company line, as we all know that Musk doesn’t play well with others. Anyway, Musk spent all of his time taking to Twitter to claim he would find all kinds of wasteful spending as if he were some modern-day Robinhood — except this Robinhood finds waste where there is none and just cuts it out anyway.
Basically, Musk went to the federal government with a hatchet and began cutting jobs without even knowing what they do. But that didn’t stop him and Trump touting the cuts as a success. Imagine someone coming to you and saying that they saved $1500 a month by not paying the bills to their home. When you tell them, “You won’t have gas, cable or electric if you don’t pay for those services,” they respond: “Yeah, but I saved $1500!”
That’s DOGE.

And because Elon Musk has never been vetted and has never had to sit before a Congressional committee to explain his purpose and possible conflicts of interests -– considering he owns several companies and has contracts with the government -– lawyers filed suit against the legality of DOGE.
The White House claimed that Musk was not the head of DOGE, and Amy Gleason was the Acting Administrator. The problem is that the White House can’t stop contradicting themselves. During his fake State of the Union address (no, seriously it wasn’t a SOTU address it was just a gathering of elected officials that looked a lot like the SOTU address), a proud Trump turned to Musk and exclaimed: “I have created the brand-new Department of Government Efficiency, DOGE. Perhaps you’ve heard of it. Perhaps. Which is headed by Elon Musk, who is in the gallery tonight.”
This would be the part in Menace II Society where Bill Duke’s character turns to the boy he knows is lying and says, “You know you done f**ked up.”
“Kelly B. McClanahan, a lawyer in a case that centers on DOGE’s legality and operations…who represents parties suing DOGE, entered a new court filing shortly after the remark highlighting it as ‘new evidence,’ emphasizing that Trump had affirmed that Musk was heading DOGE,” NBC News reports.
In the suit viewed by NBC News, “McClanahan wrote that Trump’s comment conclusively demonstrates that expedited discovery is urgently needed to ascertain the nature of the Department of Government Efficiency and its relationship to the United States DOGE Service, of which Amy Gleason is the Acting Administrator.”
ANGELA WEISS
As with most things related to the Trump White House, it’s all purposefully vague and noncommittal.
First, Musk was the head of DOGE and now he’s not until he is again. Joshua Fisher, the director of the Office of Administration, wrote in February that Musk is a “senior advisor” to Trump and “has no greater authority than other senior White House advisers,” NBC reports.
“Mr. Musk is an employee in the White House office,” added Fisher. “He is not an employee of the U.S. DOGE Service or U.S. DOGE Service Temporary Organization. Mr. Musk is not the U.S. DOGE Service Administrator.”
I’ve seen this movie before, and something tells me this isn’t going to end well for Trump’s White House and the fictional department that is totally run by the draconian South African, allegedly.
