President Donald Trump has expressed interest in the possibility of serving a third term, citing support from his followers who believe he should have more time to achieve his goals.
“A lot of people want me to do it,” Trump said in a Sunday-morning phone call with NBC News, referring to his allies. “But, I mean, I basically tell them we have a long way to go, you know, it’s very early in the administration.”
While the U.S. Constitution’s 22nd Amendment limits presidents to two terms, there have been past discussions about repealing this restriction. Some legal scholars have suggested potential loopholes, including the possibility of running as vice president and later assuming the presidency.
Trump stated that “that’s one” method.
“But there are others, too,” Trump added.
Trump, who would be 87 by the end of a hypothetical third term, stated that he remains focused on his current administration and that it is too early to consider another term. However, his remarks have reignited debates over presidential term limits and executive power in the U.S.
