DOJ Withdrawing Consent Decrees in Major Blow to Police Reform
Consent decrees, which have often been used to spur police reform in cities where misconduct, bias, and poor policing are endemic, are under attack from the Trump Administration.

This should be a story about Mike Waltz getting fired from his job as national security adviser in the aftermath of #Signalgate and the whole “You put a journalist in the war group chat?” saga.
Based on information from five anonymous sources “familiar with the situation,” Politico reported early Thursday that Waltz “has lost the confidence of other administration officials,” and Donald Trump was planning on ousting him.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was asked about the possibility of Mike Waltz being fired from his job as National Security Adviser, she said, “We are not going to respond to reporting from anonymous sources.”
Her response is hilarious considering what has transpired since.
Because things happen fast in the Trump administration, before NewsOne could even publish the news that Waltz was going to be out of a job, news dropped that he had a brand new job — or at least the prospect of one.
USA Today reports that Donald Trump wrote the following in a Truth Social post today:
“I am pleased to announce that I will be nominating Mike Waltz to be the next United States Ambassador to the United Nations,” Trump wrote. “From his time in uniform on the battlefield, in Congress and, as my National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz has worked hard to put our Nation’s Interests first. I know he will do the same in his new role. In the interim, Secretary of State Marco Rubio will serve as National Security Advisor, while continuing his strong leadership at the State Department.”
Wow. Let’s see if I can remember the order of operations here.
Mike Waltz is the person who added The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg to the unauthorized war group chat that was happening on Signal, and it was in said group chat that Goldberg was made aware of US plans for airstrikes on Yemen.
A lot of people tied to the group chat, including Mike Waltz himself, openly lied and denied that anything of the sort had happened, and even when Goldberg published the text messages, thus proving them all to be liars, Trump still stood by them because whiteness is going to win above all else.
It is that same whiteness that is providing a forcefield of protection against accountability for Mike Waltz, and instead of ending up in the unemployment line as he should be (along with Pete Hegseth, if you ask me), he’s being nominated for another high-profile position.
To put this in terms even the slowest Trump supporter could understand, this is like if Waltz got caught stealing from the register at his job at Walmart, and instead of firing him, they gave him the code to the safe where they keep all the store’s money.
It’s a thing that makes total sense to Donald Trump and his merry band of white supremacists, but makes absolutely no sense to the rest of us with functioning brain cells and critical thinking skills.
This is called failing up, and it’s a thing that happens for white men a lot.
While Donald Trump and those in his administration want you to think that Black people have somehow been given some overreaching advantage in this country, the real advantage is whiteness — a specific kind of whiteness that pledges allegiance to itself above all else.
If Mike Waltz were a Black man, we wouldn’t even be having this discussion.
If something like this had happened during the Obama administration, we never would have heard the end of it.
But because the bar for Black people is somewhere in the unreachable stratosphere and the bar for mediocre white men is buried somewhere under the floorboards, here we are.
Thanks, AmeriKKKa.
